Dodgers trading for Tarik Skubal would feel unfair to the rest of MLB

The scariest part of the growing Tarik Skubal trade rumors is not that contenders are interested. It is that the Los Angeles Dodgers might actually have the pieces to pull it off.

According to Bleacher Report’s latest breakdown of possible Skubal destinations, the Dodgers stand out as perhaps the cleanest and most terrifying fit if the Detroit Tigers decide to seriously entertain offers before the trade deadline.

And honestly, it feels exactly like the kind of move baseball fans have learned to expect from Los Angeles.

The Dodgers somehow still have a pitching problem

Which sounds ridiculous considering the names already attached to their roster. But despite another strong start to the season, Los Angeles has spent much of 2026 trying to survive pitching instability. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow have battled injuries, while younger arms have struggled to consistently stabilize the rotation behind Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.

That is what makes the Skubal rumors feel believable. The Dodgers are never shy about solving problems aggressively, especially when another championship is within reach.

Bleacher Report proposed a hypothetical package centered around prospects Zyhir Hope and Emil Morales, both highly regarded young hitters in the Dodgers system. That is the advantage Los Angeles always seems to possess.

Even while competing for championships annually, the organization somehow continues producing elite prospect depth. Most contenders have to gut their future to acquire a player like Skubal. The Dodgers can make massive offers without completely emptying the pipeline.

That flexibility is why rival fanbases panic every time a superstar becomes available.

Detroit would be making a painful but understandable gamble

From Detroit’s perspective, trading Skubal would still be incredibly difficult. He is not just the Tigers’ best pitcher. He is one of the few true franchise-level stars the organization has developed during this rebuilding era. Moving him would signal major concerns about where the current roster stands long term.

But the Tigers also have to consider reality. They have collapsed in the standings, lost 17 of 20 games and suddenly look far removed from contention. If the front office fears losing Skubal in free agency down the road, maximizing his value now may become impossible to ignore.

Especially if a team like Los Angeles starts dangling premium young talent.

That is part of why the rumors feel so uncomfortable for everybody outside Southern California. Whenever the Dodgers identify a weakness, they usually find a way to attack it. And when elite talent becomes available, they almost always have the prospect capital to enter the conversation seriously.

Adding Tarik Skubal would not just strengthen the Dodgers. It would reinforce the growing feeling around baseball that the road to the World Series continues running directly through Los Angeles.
