Dodgers trade idea swaps two valuable prospects for 4.48 ERA Orioles lefty

The Los Angeles Dodgers are likely to be trade deadline buyers, and it should come as little surprise that they're strongly linked to Tarik Skubal this summer.

But, with the Detroit Tigers potentially vying for a postseason spot, or their price tag being a little too rich for the Dodgers, Andrew Friedman and company could pivot elsewhere for more pitching help.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report pitched a trade idea for the Dodgers, which is "realistic," and yet, one that gives up two valuable prospects for Baltimore Orioles 4.48 ERA left-hander Trevor Rogers, in a bit of a strange idea.

Dodgers trade idea swaps 2 valuable prospects for Trevor Rogers

"Realistic Trade: Los Angeles Dodgers acquire LHP Trevor Rogers from Baltimore Orioles for LHP Jackson Ferris and OF/1B Ryan Ward," Miller proposes.

Landing a starting pitcher in a trade wouldn't be a bad idea, especially with the Dodgers' history of rotation injuries. But this trade idea would be a little strange.

Jackson Ferris is one of the best prospects in the Dodgers' farm system, as the 22-year-old left-hander has impressed in the minor leagues. Though he has a 6.96 ERA this season in 14 starts, his 3.86 ERA in 2025 and 3.20 ERA in 2024 are reasons to believe in him.

Ryan Ward, meanwhile, is not a terrible addition to a trade. He's 28 years old and has already proven to be a solid player in the big leagues.

He has a .738 OPS in 20 games and 55 at-bats for the Dodgers this season, and in the minors last year, he had a .937 OPS, and this season, he has a .772 OPS. But, at 28 years old, he's a lot more expendable.

However, trading those two valuable prospects for Rogers, a pitcher with a 4.48 ERA this season, would be a little strange, especially since he's a rental.

While Rogers has been great in his seven starts since the beginning of June, posting a 1.73 ERA with 31 strikeouts and a 4-1 record in 41.2 innings, his overall inconsistencies make him a risky trade pickup.

To part with Ferris and Ward for Rogers, two prospects the Dodgers could use to acquire more long-term help, or simply just call up to the big leagues, wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Rogers likely wouldn't be a big-enough of a difference-maker in the Dodgers' pursuit of a World Series title to make such a deal worth it. They may as well target Skubal, or not make a trade if the cost of someone like Rogers is going to be this high.
