Brewers linked to trade idea swapping 1.015 OPS prospect for 2.77 ERA Nationals ace

The Milwaukee Brewers are going to be trade deadline buyers this season, as they're leading the NL Central and have a clear path to a first-round bye.

In looking to their trade targets this summer, the left side of the infield, the bullpen, and the starting rotation are their clear top-three needs. When it comes to the rotation, even with Jacob Misiorowski and Kyle Harrison, they need more help there.

That's why Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report proposed a trade idea that would have the Brewers land 2.77 ERA Washington Nationals ace Foster Griffin. However, to land such a rental, Miller has the Brewers giving up a 1.015 OPS infield prospect.

Brewers trade idea swaps 1.015 OPS INF prospect for Foster Griffin

"Realist Trade: Milwaukee Brewers acquire LHP Foster Griffin from Washington Nationals for 1B/3B Luke Adams," Miller writes.

Griffin is an interesting starting pitcher. He has a 2.77 ERA and a 10-2 record this season, but is 30 years old, under contract for $5.5 million for just the 2025 season, and spent the last three seasons playing overseas in Japan.

He has 109 strikeouts in 110.1 innings of work this season for the Nationals, and with a 154 ERA+ and a 1.015 WHIP, he's someone worth getting excited about.

But, in this trade idea, the prospect the Brewers would be giving up to land Griffin would be 22-year-old Luke Adams, a 12th-round pick by the Brewers in 2022.

The right-handed slugger has a 1.015 OPS this season in 43 games, with a .255 batting average, 13 home runs, seven doubles, one triple, and 33 RBIs with 23 walks, 33 strikeouts, and six stolen bases.

That includes his .948 OPS at Triple-A this year in 39 games, which is a large enough sample size to not fully be a fluke. Adams might just be a good hitting prospect, even if not in the same tier as Jesus Made, Luis Lara, Cooper Pratt, and Jett Williams.

This trade idea, parting with the 1.015 OPS Adams for the 2.77 ERA Griffin, would be a very interesting one. It's the kind of move that would help the Brewers now, but could come back to bite them if Adams turns into a star in the future.
