The Los Angeles Dodgers have dealt with their fair share of injuries this season, whether it has been to pitchers like Tyler Glasnow or everyday stars like Mookie Betts. However, the team is finally beginning to get somewhat healthy.
Recently, the Dodgers lost Blake Snell to another injury shortly after getting him back. Snell underwent a procedure similar to the one Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers previously had.
“Dr. Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery on Dodgers Blake Snell. Possible that he will be able to use the same arthroscopic procedure (Nano Needle) he used on Tarik Skubal. Less damage to tissue, quicker return. Skubal was playing light catch 5 days after his procedure,” Dodgers beat writer Bill Plunkett wrote.
Speaking of Skubal, reports have indicated that the Dodgers are one of the teams expected to pursue him ahead of the trade deadline.
“Now that it’s becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline, rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects: The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote.
There is growing belief around the league that the Dodgers could ultimately be the team to pull off the blockbuster trade. Adding Skubal to an injury-riddled rotation may be exactly what Los Angeles needs.
“Skubal is, of course, a pending free agent after 2026. If he is going to get traded, it figures that only legitimate World Series contenders are going to risk it. Just sayin': When Reuter ranked the farm systems in April, he had the Dodgers at No. 3.,” Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer wrote.
Skubal is expected to be the biggest name available at the trade deadline given the direction the Tigers’ season has taken. The Dodgers are known for landing superstar talent during free agency, so it would only make sense if they did the same at the deadline.
With both Snell and Glasnow struggling to stay healthy, acquiring Skubal would be a safe move for Los Angeles. Not only would it stabilize the rotation, but it could also make the Dodgers an even tougher out come October. After winning two consecutive World Series titles, adding Skubal might be the move that gives them their best chance at a third straight championship.
