Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gives exciting update on Tigers' Tarik Skubal trade possibility

The Los Angeles Dodgers are going to attempt to make some moves at the deadline, as injuries have tested them at times. LA is looking to win its third consecutive World Series.

The Dodgers have been in contact with the Detroit Tigers about Tarik Skubal, who is one of the most sought-after trade candidates. LA is expected to face competition for the two-time Cy Young winner.

“Now that it’s becoming inevitable that the free-falling Detroit Tigers may have no choice but to trade two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal at the deadline, rival executives believe the bidding will come down to four finalists that not only can afford the remainder of his $32 million contract, but will also be willing to give up prized prospects: The Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and San Diego Padres,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote.

Whatever happens, the Dodgers can’t let him end up on a legitimate National League contender.

“You can’t bank on getting lucky and having an entire starting rotation healthy in October again Not to mention, you have to try and prevent Skubal from landing in PHI, ATL, MIL, SD Would be brutal having to face him twice in one playoff series,” Dodgers beat writer Blake Harris posted.

The likelihood of the Dodgers landing him is reportedly strong, as LA is highly motivated to acquire him. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently shared his thoughts on potentially trading for Skubal.

“They would go ballistic but we would have the prospect capital to do that. We are one of the teams that could do that with the Tigers,” Roberts said.

It certainly feels like Roberts has had some discussions with the front office about pursuing Skubal. His comments also suggest that trade packages may already be under consideration internally.

LA appears committed to pushing for a deal with Detroit at some point. Skubal to the Dodgers would be a nightmare pairing, and the rest of MLB would be put on notice.
