The Los Angeles Dodgers have continued their onslaught of star acquisitions this winter and now they need to make room for them.

After adding the likes of Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, Roki Sasaki and perhaps now Kirby Yates, the Dodgers are running out of space on the roster. As a result, eight-year veteran reliever Ryan Brasier could be on his way out.

“The Los Angeles Dodgers, who need to clear space on their 40-man roster for their new and pending additions, are shopping some of their surplus to teams, including veteran Ryan Brasier, who is owed $4.5 million this year,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reported.

The Dodgers are reportedly in a tentative agreement with Yates, who would provide an upgrade to the bullpen over Brasier. In his 2024 campaign for the Dodgers, Brasier posted a 3.54 ERA in 28 total innings and he’s now entering the final year of a two-year, $9 million deal with the Dodgers.

As the Dodgers continue to upgrade a roster that won the World Series championship in 2024, more players currently on their roster could be on the move out as well. In a recent report for MLB.com, Sonja Chen listed Chris Taylor, Miguel Rojas and James Outman as the “top possibilities” for the team’s next trade.

“As busy as the Dodgers have been this offseason, there’s still more they would like to accomplish,” Chen added. “Depending on what’s next, they may need to open more spots on the 40-man roster.”

After the blockbuster acquisition of Scott, the most coveted reliever on the market, some might have felt the Dodgers were content with their 40-man roster as constructed. But as the pursuit of Yates shows, the Dodgers can never be counted out when there’s a chance to make the team better.
