Dodgers force World Series Game 7 after holding on for thrilling win

This baseball season will have one more game.

Behind another Yoshinobu Yamamoto gem and a crazy ending, the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays, 3-1, on Friday night and push the World Series to a Game 7 on Saturday.

The Blue Jays, which put two on and nobody out in the ninth inning, failed to score after the Dodgers turned a wild double play. No. 9 hitter Andres Gimenez hit a hard liner to left, but Enrique Hernandez made the catch and threw back to second to double off Addison Barger for the final out.

Yamamoto held Toronto to one run over six innings, striking out six.

While the struggling Dodgers offense didn’t exactly have a breakthrough, they scored more than enough to support the pitching. Los Angeles scored all three runs in the third, one on Will Smith’s ice-breaking single and two on Mookie Betts’ line drive base knock.

Saturday will mark the first World Series Game 7 since 2019.
