The Los Angeles Dodgers won their second consecutive World Series title in 2025 and managed to stack their roster even more heading into the 2026 season. The biggest key for the Dodgers when the postseason arrives is pitching. It seems that once the World Series begins, Los Angeles struggles at the plate and relies heavily on its pitching staff.
“The Dodgers batted .203 in the World Series, the worst mark by a champion since 1966. Over the last 2 seasons, they have batted a combined .204 in the World Series and won both years,” Jesse Rogers wrote.
The Dodgers are nearing the end of Spring Training and have several decisions to make, including who will make the Opening Day roster. Second-year player Hyeseong Kim could be in danger if he can’t find his swing.
“Kim’s swing remained a work in progress Sunday, when he had just one hit — a softly lined single, followed by a stolen base and run scored — in four at-bats in a spring training game against the Cubs. Now, he has just a week remaining in spring training to try to find a fix; hoping to show the Dodgers enough to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster,” New York Post’s Jack Harris wrote.
The good news for Los Angeles is that manager Dave Roberts already has his starter lined up for Opening Day. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the reigning World Series MVP, will get the nod.
“Dave Roberts made it official— Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be Dodgers Opening Day starter March 26 v DBacks,” Dodgers beat writer Bill Plunkett wrote.
It makes complete sense for the Dodgers to go with their MVP after his impressive postseason performance in October. Yamamoto will look to get Los Angeles off on the right foot in what should be another exciting season.
The Dodgers lineup became even more dangerous over the offseason, and the bullpen also improved. At the moment, there isn’t a legitimate weak spot on the roster, and this 2026 Dodgers team could end up challenging several franchise and league records.
