Dodgers could swing blockbuster trade for $56 million All-Star to fill hole

The Los Angeles Dodgers outfield could be in need of an upgrade around the trade deadline. Teoscar Hernández is currently injured, but even when he returns, they may need some help.

Michael Conforto is slashing just .172/.303/.287. Andy Pages has been playing great and has likely cemented an everyday role. Hernández will slide back into an everyday role when he returns. However, the Dodgers may not be able to reach their World Series aspirations with Conforto playing on a nightly basis.

AthlonSports' Joel Reuter suggested the Dodgers trade for Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins. He is projected to earn a $56 million deal in free agency, and the Orioles are shaping up to be sellers.

"The All-Star center fielder will be a free agent at season's end, and with a potential future outfield of Colton Cowser, Heston Kjerstad, and Tyler O'Neill, flipping him for prospects this summer makes sense if the Orioles do not intend to sign him to a long-term deal," wrote Reuter.

Mullins was an All-Star and Silver Slugger in 2021. Since 2021, he has a .768 OPS and 86 home runs. This season, he has hit seven home runs and collected 21 RBIs. He has just a .229 batting average, but has a .775 OPS. The Dodgers are a winning organization and are trying to repeat as World Series champions. They may not leave anything up to chance.

"Meanwhile, if the Baltimore Orioles continue to struggle, Cedric Mullins could end up being one of the biggest names on the block at the trade deadline, and he could be the perfect rental for the Dodgers to shore up their outfield contingent," wrote Reuter.
