Dillon Brooks gets honest about his relationship with referees 'Said I'm playing victim'

Throughout his career, Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has had a rocky relationship with the referees. He is the type of player who loves talking trash to his opponents because that is just how his personality is. Brooks loves throwing his opponents off their game, but he gets penalized for it often.

Against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, the Suns lost the game 136-109. Brooks had a decent performance, scoring 23 points, grabbing five rebounds, and dishing out four assists. Unfortunately, he was called for his 16th technical foul, which will result in a one-game suspension.

Brooks opens up about his rocky dynamic with referees

Unfortunately for Brooks, he has a reputation with the referees. That has followed him throughout his career, which led to him clashing with the officials. On Wednesday, it was referee James Williams, who has become widely known around the league as the Gucci Mane lookalike.

During the game, Williams gave Brooks a technical foul, which was his 16th of the season. That means he won't be present in the Suns' next game against the San Antonio Spurs on the second night of a back-to-back.

Brooks dislikes his relationship with referees because he feels he is getting picked on now. It is not a good thing that he keeps picking up technical fouls, but sometimes, Brooks knows that it is more of his reputation doing the work, and not something he did on the court.

"Focus on the game. He said I'm playing victim all the time. When I don't play the victim, I'm a bad guy. Choose one... We haven't won a game with Gucci reffing... that should be on notice... We've had him 4-5 times already," Brooks said about his relationship with referee Williams.

It is not a good look for Brooks, but if he is telling the truth, reputation does play a big role for these players. Despite Brooks standing out as one of the breakout stars of the season, he continues to retain his reputation. Unfortunately, that will affect the Suns, as they look to win more games.
