Dallas Mavericks' general manager Nico Harrison has been in the bad books of many Mavs fans since he traded away the franchise's generational superstar Luka Doncic to the Lakers last season.

In exchange for Doncic, Harrison brought in Anthony Davis to follow a defense-first approach for the future seasons. In April, Harrison justified the trade by saying that defense won championships. However, the same statement has come back to bite the Mavs manager.

After playing only five games this season, Anthony Davis has been sidelined with a calf injury, and Dallas has become one of the worst teams in the league. They are last in the West standings with a 2-7 record.

On Saturday, a post claiming Nico Harrison has been fired from his job went viral on social media. The post was made on NBA Centel's X account, a well-known parody social media account popular for taking jabs at players, coaches, and the league.

Although the Mavericks are experiencing some of the worst times in recent history, their general manager is still in power. The viral post is nothing but a satirical take on the Mavs' poor start to the season.

The X post has garnered over 1.1 million impressions, 18,000 likes, 710 reposts, 446 comments, and 222 bookmarks.

Is Dallas Mavericks' GM Nico Harrison in trouble for his failed gamble?

It is fairly safe to say that the LA Lakers have emerged as the obvious winner of the blockbuster trade that sent Luka Doncic to LA and Anthony Davis to Dallas. Mavs' GM Nico Harrison made the ultimate gamble in the hope of winning a championship now with his team.

However, everything has gone wrong for Dallas since the trade. Last season, Kyrie Irving tore his ACL during the final stretch of the regular season. Anthony Davis was still on the sidelines when Irving suffered the injury. The former Lakers big man returned to the court in the final few games. However, they failed to make the playoffs.

Entering the 2025 draft, the Mavs bagged the number one pick and selected Cooper Flagg. However, Flagg's season so far has been nothing out of the ordinary. He is not the same as Luka Doncic, who led the Mavs to a Finals appearance in the 2023-24 season.

Flagg is currently left as the only big name on the roster while Irving and Davis are out. On the other hand, Luka Doncic has entered the prime of is career and is putting up MVP-level statistics. The new Lakers superstar is averaging 40.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game.

If the situation gets worse in Dallas, Nico Harrison could get the boot, and the Mavs would enter a rebuilding era.
