The Arizona Diamondbacks got some free agency business done early.
On Friday, the Diamondbacks inked former All-Star catcher James McCann to a contract.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported the signing of McCann to a one-year deal. The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reported the details of a $2.75 million guarantee with $500,000 in potential bonsues.
McCann ended this past season with the Diamondbacks, but he didn't start with Arizona.
Last offseason, McCann got a minor league contract with the Braves. He had the chance to opt-out if an MLB job opened up, and that happened in Arizona when Gabriel Moreno broke a finger in June, so McCann went to join the Diamondbacks.
He played in 42 games for Arizona and batted .260 with a .754 OPS.
Now, McCann gets a regular major league deal for the season ahead, which will be his age-36 campaign.

McCann has already played 12 major league seasons, having broken through with the Detroit Tigers before playing for the White Sox, Mets and Orioles.
He's a career .242 hitter with 97 career home runs.
McCann made the All-Star Game in 2019 as a member of the White Sox, a year in which he hit a career-high 26 doubles and 18 home runs.
At this point, McCann is expected to back up Moreno in the desert. He's about as reliable a backup catcher as they come.
