After a lackluster 2025 season for the Arizona Diamondbacks, the front office made it its mission to stay busy this winter. They have made multiple moves that should put them in a better place for the 2026 season.
They made it a point to grab arms, coming to terms with Merrill Kelly and Michael Soroka. However, their biggest splash came in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals.
The D-Backs received 10-time Gold Glove Award winner Nolan Arenado in exchange for Jack Martinez. Arenado will now handle the hot corner, likely moving Jordan Lawler into the outfield.

Diamondbacks predicted to sign 7x All-Star in latest lineup projection
As we are only a few days away from February, the baseball season will be here before you know it. With much of the offseason news done, we can get a clearer picture of what these teams will be rolling out on Opening Day.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter took a crack at predicting every team's Opening Day lineup. In it, he predicts the Diamondbacks to come to terms on a reunion with seven-time All-Star Paul Goldschmidt.
SS Geraldo Perdomo
2B Ketel Marte
RF Corbin Carroll
3B Nolan Arenado
DH Pavin Smith
C Gabriel Moreno
1B Paul Goldschmidt
CF Alek Thomas
LF Jordan Lawlar
Goldschmidt is already familiar with the organization. They were the club that selected him in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB Draft, giving him his shot.
With his age, he likely would not be looking for a long-term deal. He could likely be had on a one-year deal, under $13 million.
This could be Goldschmidt's best opportunity. He would get his shot to man first base for the majority of the season while still being on a team that has a chance to make the postseason and go on a run.
