The Way of the Three is one of Diablo 4’s more cryptic and hidden sidequests. While it is hidden, it also rewards you with a challenge, a title prefix/suffix, and a piece of armor for your collection. That in and of itself makes it worth doing. The trouble is, unless you know what you’re looking for, there’s no way to complete it. However, we’ve taken the time to find all the pre-requisites, and completed the quest.
It will require you to complete at least one Stronghold, and the storyline campaign of Kehjistan, but if you’re playing on the seasonal servers, that’s much less of an issue. If you want the rewards from The Way of the Three in Diablo 4, here’s what you need to know.
How to unlock The Way of the Three side quest in Diablo 4
Before you can even start The Way of the Three in Diablo 4, you need to find a trio of statues in Kehjistan. Once you find the statues, you need to use the cheer emote in front of them, which will cause a fire to light on them. That’s how you will know that you’ve succeeded.
This statue's easy to get to, once you've cleared out the Altar of Ruin (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Statue #1 is in the Altar of Ruin area, which does require you to complete the Stronghold. The room with the statue is where the boss is, which requires you to defeat the High Priests, and unlock the door. You can see the statue in the screenshot above. If you haven’t completed this Stronghold, the closest fast travel is likely Jirandai.
This one could be easily missable if you aren't paying attention (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Statue #2 is just outside of the northwest exit of the Fields of Hatred. On the path leading out of the PVP area, you’ll see a horned, demonic statue head on the right, shown in the screenshot above. If you don’t have the waypoint here, just ride from Gea Kul, and you’ll see it on the way.
At last, you're finally ready to start the quest! (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Statue #3 is located at the Shrine of Terror in the Southern Expanse, and there’s no fast travel to get closer. Just ride from where Statue #2 is, to the location on the map above. Like the other two, use the cheer emote, to see this statue start to glow with fire. Now that you’ve done this, you can actually begin The Way of the Three in Diablo 4.
Steps to complete The Way of the Three side quest in Diablo 4
Now that you’ve lit the three statues, you can begin The Way of the Three in Diablo 4, by using the Caldeum Waypoint, and running to the location given on the image above. From here, you can pick up the quest proper.
Just head to this location and after a few waves of demons, this challenge and quest is complete (Image via Blizzard Entertainment)Steps to complete The Way of the Three
- Pick up the quest in Caldeum
- Energize the Gateway
- Investigate the Cave
- Locate the Communing Pillar
When you arrive at the location above, Energize the Gateway by interacting with it, and a Red Portal will spawn. Enter it to continue this quest. You’ll arrive in a cave that you need to investigate, so begin exploring. Before long, you’ll come across a High Priest’s corpse you can interact with. A red spirit will appear, and interact with it as well and ask “What is this place?”
The next step is to locate the Communing Pillar for Diablo 4’s Way of the Three. It’s only a few steps away, so just run over and activate it. Now, you need to fight your way through four or so waves of demons, but they’re easy to kill, regardless of what difficulty you’re on. In addition to gold, xp, and a rare (Hellfire Hauberk) piece of armor, you’ll receive the Triune and Trouble affixes for your title and the Way of the Three Challenge.
