The New Jersey Devils have relieved Goaltending Coach Dave Rogalski of his duties in addition to announcing that Assistant Coach Sergei Brylin will be taking on a new role within the Devils' organization.
New Jersey made this latest announcement regarding staff changes on May 19, in addition to explicitly indicating that a search has already begun for replacements for those roles. This news also comes following the May 16 announcement of Sunny Mehta being named the Devils' sixth general manager in team history. These overall changes also come as New Jersey has missed the playoffs for four consecutive seasons until the 2022-23 campaign, and are once again out of playoff contention for the ongoing season.
It was the 11th time in 14 seasons the Devils failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Mehta previously said in his introductory press conference that his mission is to make the Devils into a winning team, and that starts with his decision making.
"My goal for this front office is quite simple — I want to make smart, objective and educated decisions, and I want to do it over and over and over again. For that reason, I believe I'm the right person to implement that agenda, given my past experiences and successes the team," Mehta had said. "I think it's somewhat safe to say the main objective is to put a winning team on the ice, and I take that seriously. To me putting a winning team on the ice, that function of a general manager is about decision making, taking in information of all different sorts, assessing risk and making decisions that are going to have inherent uncertainty with them.”
Devils relieve goaltending coach Dave Rogalski
Rogalski was originally named the goaltending coach on Oct. 23, 2020. Brylin previously played for the Devils from 1995 to 2008 and helped the Devils to three Stanley Cups.
The most recent goaltending duo for the Devils was with Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen. Markstrom finished the 2025-26 season with one shutout and a 3.07 goals against average. Allen played in 37 games and boasted a .904 save percentage.
