Detroit Tigers-Baltimore Orioles trade pitch involves Jackson Holliday and Tarik Skubal, plus more

The Detroit Tigers could face a difficult decision with ace Tarik Skubal, as his long-term future with the organization remains uncertain. The question will be centered around whether the Tigers think they have enough to keep him around in six months when he’s a free agent.

Thomas Carelli of Sports Illustrated suggested Detroit could consider dealing the star left-hander to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a massive prospect haul, an idea many have had.

Tigers Get: Jackson Holliday, Coby Mayo, Heston Kjerstad, Cade Povich

Orioles Get: Skubal

“To say that Skubal can win this team a World Series would be incorrect. This is a team sport, and though Skubal is elite, the Tigers may be better suited to take their leverage and shop it for long-term future assets at lower prices under the team control.

“Skubal is being paid $32 million over this one year. His arbitration term ends after 2026, and Skubal is very likely to leave Detroit. It is logical, as another team will pay his price by outbidding the Tigers. As it stands, the Tigers are only 22/1 to win the World Series. They may be more set to keep Skubal if they were among the favorites. Holding him would be a move that might, and very likely would not, win the World Series,” he wrote.

Skubal is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but if the Tigers don’t think he’ll remain with them in the long-term, maximizing his trade value could help.

Holliday hasn’t been great, but he’s barely had his first sip of coffee in the show.

The left-handed Skubal, however, is the best pitcher in baseball, and no package would be enough for him.
