Detroit Lions' Jared Goff destroys silly narrative after dropping 50 burger on Bears

Entering the Week 2 game against the Chicago Bears, there was a silly stat going around about Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff.

The stat was Goff's record without his former offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, and his former Los Angeles Rams head coach, Sean McVay, both of whom are sensational play-callers.

Going into Sunday, Goff was 3-18-1 when he didn't have one of those two calling plays for him. Of course, the 18th loss came in Week 1, when the Lions looked terrible in an ugly defeat at the hands of the Green Bay Packers.

Well, Goff is now 4-18-1 after torching the Bears on Sunday and more than proved he doesn't need either one of those coaches to succeed.

The Lions quarterback was sensational, completing 23-of-28 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns en route to dropping a 50 burger on Johnson and the Bears, which completely annihilates the aforementioned narrative.

The stat was silly to begin with, though, as the Detroit Free Press' Dave Birkett pointed out.

"Damn, people are really using this stat? He went 0-7 as a rookie and 3-10-1 when the Lions were awful in 2021. The Lions were bad last week and I’ve been critical of Goff during his time in Detroit but it’s one week," Birkett said.

Unlike last week, Goff routinely had a clean pocket and it made all the difference in the world, as you'd expect. We saw the return of the big plays the Lions have become well-known for and it was a night and day difference from last week.

Goff and the Lions will look to keep the good times rolling when they travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in Week 3.
