When it comes to the offseason, there was really just one move for the Boston Celtics that took all the headlines. We're talking about, of course, trading Jaylen Brown.
Losing Brown will make a major shift in this organization and completely changes the chemistry of the current Celtics' roster. They still have Jayson Tatum and Derrick White, thankfully. They also added Mitchell Robinson, which can only help.
So, all is not lost, and some of the team's core player are still there. But, there's no getting around that things are going to look different for the Celtics this season.
Derrick White of the Boston Celtics should be looking to bounce back in 2026
In a power ranking feature out from John Schuhmann of the NBA's official website, the Celtics are ranked No. 6 in the Eastern Conference. His main question is about whether White can rediscover his shot.
"Among 123 players with at least 500 field goal attempts in each of the last two seasons, White saw the biggest drop in effective field goal percentage from 2024-25 (58%) to '25-26 (48.9%), and it was even lower (41.4%) as the Celtics lost to the Sixers in the first round of the playoffs," he notes in the feature.
He adds that "the drop-off was significant both from 3-point range and in the paint. Somehow, the Celtics still had the league’s second-ranked offense last season."
So, it was a difficult stretch for White. Now, part of the Celtics' future revolves around whether he bounces back this season. White is extremely talented, so he has the goods. He's one of the faces of this franchise. Hopefully he's doing some offseason training to come back with stronger shooting skills in 2026.
