Denver Broncos have a huge concern at their most important position

The Denver Broncos have struggled on both sides of the ball to begin the 2025 season and have a 1-1 record to show for it. That record should probably be 2-0, but it could also easily be 0-2.

The Broncos have not played good football in either of the first two games this season and now face a stiff challenge in Week 3 against the Los Angeles Chargers on the road. While a major hole may have reared its ugly head in Week 2, that being the middle of the defense, the Broncos have a bigger problem going forward, at least according to Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report

Gagnon identified each team's biggest problem and stated that turnovers are what's plaguing the Broncos the most.

"Trying to avoid a sophomore slump, Broncos quarterback Bo Nix has thrown three interceptions and committed a tied-for-league-high six turnover-worthy plays, according to Pro Football Focus.

And while they got away with offensive mistakes in their opener, it cost them dearly in a Week 2 loss to the Colts. Denver is already minus-three in the turnover margin category, and the schedule is about to become a lot tougher.

Outlook: They're in LA for the Chargers and in Philadelphia two weeks from now. They'll have to be a lot more disciplined in those affairs, or it'll be tough to establish momentum in the potentially wide-open AFC West", wrote Gagnon.

The term "sophomore slump" was tossed around frequently this offseason in reference to Bo Nix after a successful rookie campaign. Through two games, it seems those who predicted that may have been onto something.

Nix has thrown three interceptions while also losing a fumble, mistakes he avoided as a rookie. But what's most concerning are those turnover-worthy plays that Gagnon discussed. What is causing Nix to play that way and how can the Broncos get him going in a different direction?

Those are the questions the Broncos need to answer, and soon.

While the offense was much better against the Colts last week than against the Titans in the season opener, Nix appears to be trying to do too much on the field and not just taking what the defense gives him. Getting support with a strong running game will be key, but Nix needs to play within himself and not try to make a play happen when it's not there, which gets him away from basic fundamentals.

Whether or not this is the Broncos' biggest problem right now is debatable, but it is one that will start taking the season in a bad direction without improvement.
