Dell Curry drops major hint on who’ll be in Dallas during Cooper Flagg’s upcoming career with the Mavs

I spoke with Dell Curry about Cooper Flagg’s upcoming NBA career during a media tour ahead of the 2025 American Century Championship – a 90+-athlete/celebrity golf tournament that’ll be broadcast on NBC, Peacock, and the GOLF Channel on July 11-13 from Stateline, Nevada – and he dropped a major nugget of information:

Jason Kidd will be Flagg’s coach on the Dallas Mavericks during his rookie season, amidst rumors the New York Knicks tried to poach the 52-year-old to replace the fired Tom Thibodeau.

Curry believes the Mavs can be a legitimate contender if Kyrie Irving can successfully return from his ACL tear.

”I think the Olympic team guy saw it last year when he practiced and scrimmaged with those guys. He is a really talented guy. He is hungry. He has a mature mind. Far beyond most guys his age. So I see him having a great career in the NBA. I think he’s going to a situation if he gets, if Dallas is the team that selects him, where he's gonna be coached by a wonderful guy in Jason Kidd, a really strong locker room with a veteran presence where he doesn't have to carry the team right away,” Curry said.

“ He can just learn, learn his game. Dallas, I think it's a great fit for them. And, it changes the scope of the Western Conference, especially if Kyrie comes back healthy. They're a team to be reckoned with for sure, for sure.”

While some are reporting that Kidd to the Knicks is still a possibility, Curry was definitive in discussing Dallas as a franchise that’ll keep its head coach with Flagg inbound.

He was also definitive about Irving returning.

One would think Anthony Davis would be a lock to stay as well in that scenario.
