Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has lost his bid to quash a subpoena in his son Shilo’s bankruptcy trial.
Judge Michael Romero ruled that Coach Prime must testify via video conference next Friday, Sept. 4, dismissing objections from Sanders' attorney Harvey Steinberg regarding irrelevance and scheduling conflicts with Colorado's season opener at Georgia Tech the night before.
This comes after Sanders was "unavailable" to be served by a Boulder County Sheriff. Steinberg ultimately accepted service on Sanders' behalf and immediately tried to downplay Coach Prime's significance in the case. An extremely rare step considering Sanders is only a witness in the matter.
Steinberg, a Colorado grad and one of the top criminal defense attorneys in the nation, argued the Georgia Tech game was an obligation for Sanders. Judge Romero didn't disagree, but made it clear he must testify if needed.

“It’s either that or we keep him here (in Colorado),” Judge Romero told Steinberg via USA TODAY Sports. He went on to say Sanders could find an earlier flight out of Atlanta to be available.
The trial begins on Monday, Aug. 31, in Denver. Shilo Sanders is seeking to discharge over $11 million in debt from a 2015 assault of high school security guard John Darjean. Deion Sanders' required testimony pertains to his alleged instruction to the guard to confiscate Shilo's phone during the incident.
Darjean's attorney Ori Raphael wanted Sanders in court during the entire trial next week due to the nature of the case. However, Sanders was told to be available next Friday.
Colorado open the season against Georgia Tech on Thursday, Sept. 3 (8 p.m. ET, ESPN).
