Deepti Sharma scripted history by becoming the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20Is during the fifth and final T20I between India and Sri Lanka in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, December 30. The off-spinner eclipsed Australian speedster Megan Schutt (151 wickets).

Deepti achieved the milestone by dismissing Nilakshiva Silva lbw for three runs during the 14th over of Sri Lanka's run chase. It was an easy decision for the on-field umpire as the batter was caught plumb in front of the stumps. The ball hit Silva slightly above the knee roll on the front pad, and the replays showed it would've crashed into the off-stump.

Most wickets in women's T20Is (only full member teams):

  1. Deepti Sharma – 152*
  2. Meg Schutt – 151
  3. Nida Dar (Pakistan) – 144
  4. Sophie Ecclestone (England) – 142
  5. Ellyse Perry (Australia) - 126

It was Deepti’s fifth wicket of the series against Sri Lanka. Notably, she didn’t play the second game.

Overall, only five Indian bowlers have completed 100-plus wickets in T20Is among men and women. They are Radha Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya.
