Former champions Germany and Spain will battle it out in the semifinals of the Davis Cup Finals 2025.

Germany were up against Argentina in the quarterfinals. Tomas Martin Etcheverry's 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7) win over Jan-Lennard Struff gave Argentina the early lead. Alexander Zverev leveled the proceedings with his 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over Francisco Cerundolo.

With their fates resting in the hands of the doubles teams, both teams were on the edge of their seats. Both teams held multiple match points in the third set tie-break. In the end, Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz emerged victorious with a 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10) win to send Germany into the last four.

Spain took on the Czech Republic in the semifinals. Jakub Mensik beat Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-4 to put Czechia in the lead. Jaume Munar brought Spain on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jiri Lehecka. Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez got the job done for Spain with a 7-6 (8), 7-6 (8) win.

Germany leads Spain 10-7 in the head-to-head. The Spaniards won their previous tie 3-2 during the 2018 edition. With a spot in the final up for grabs, here's a look at how their upcoming contest could unfold (match-ups are subject to change):

#1. Jan-Lennard Struff vs Pablo Carreno Busta

Both couldn't step up to win their respective singles match in the quarterfinals. Struff has a 15-22 record this year, while Carreno Busta has a 8-14 record for the season. The Spaniard leads their rivalry 3-1, and has won their last two matches.

Their most recent meeting took place at the Paris Masters 2020, which Carreno Busta won 7-6 (3), 6-2. He has a 5-8 record at the Davis Cup, while Struff has a 16-11 record while representing his country.

#2. Alexander Zverev vs Jaume Munar

Both stepped up to keep their teams in contention in the quarterfinals. They're likely to find themselves in a similar position once again depending on who wins the first singles tie.

Zverev's record for the year stands at 56-25, while Munar has a 31-25 record. Their rivalry is tied at 1-1. The former won their previous meeting at the Paris Olympics 2024 in straight sets, while the latter won their first encounter at the Morocco Open 2019 in three sets. Zverev has a 10-5 record at the Davis Cup, while Munar has gone 1-2 at the tournament.

#3. Kevin Krawietz/Tim Putz vs Marcel Granollers/Pedro Martinez

Krawietz and Putz won two titles from four finals this year, including the Shanghai Masters. Granollers usually partners Horacio Zeballos on the tour, and together they won the French Open and the US Open this year.

The German duo have the upper hand here on account of playing together throughout the year, while the Spaniards usually team up to represent their country.

While Carreno Busta enjoys the upper hand in his rivalry against Struff, the latter has given a better account of himself this year. While this match is a toss-up given their results this year, the German is a safe bet to win this time.

Munar's 4-20 record against top 10 players makes him the underdog against Zverev. He also scored his very first singles win at the Davis Cup by beating Lehecka in the previous round.

Zverev, on the other hand, has a ton of experience winning matches for his country. The Germans are unlikely to be pushed to a deciding rubber this time, and if the contest does go the distance, Krawietz and Putz have a good chance to win against Granollers and Martinez as well.

Pick: Germany to win 2-0.
