Top seed Daniil Medvedev will lock horns with Marton Fucsovics in the first round of the Brisbane International 2025.

A shock second-round defeat to Learner Tien at the Australian Open foretold what was about to unfold for Daniil Medvedev in 2025. He didn't win a match at the remaining three Majors. He had an occasional burst of brilliance during the first six months of the year, reaching the semifinals at Indian Wells, the quarterfinals in Madrid, and the final in Halle.

However, Medvedev started playing consistently well only after his first-round exit from the US Open. His drama-filled loss to Benjamin Bonzi served as a wake-up call for him. He immediately made the quarterfinals in Hangzhou, followed by back-to-back semifinals in Beijing and Shanghai.

Medvedev's efforts were rewarded with a title in Almaty, and he capped off the season with a quarterfinal run at the Paris Masters. However, he paid the price for his initial inconsistency. He finished the season ranked No. 13, breaking his streak of six straight year-end top 10 finishes.

Fucsovics started the 2025 season ranked outside the top 100. However, he worked his way back into the top 60 by the end of the year. He won one title each on the Challenger and ATP Tours, helping him gain valuable points. He also made the third round at Wimbledon, and the semifinals in Bucharest.

Medvedev's resurgence in the last few months of 2025 proved that he's still capable of playing at a high level. He finished the season with a respectable 41-23 record. Fucsovics also raised his level to improve his standing in 2025 after dropping as low as No. 134 in the world in May.

Both have previously competed in Brisbane once only in their careers. Medvedev finished as the runner-up to Kei Nishikori in 2018, while Fucsovics lost in the first round to Matteo Arnaldi in 2024.
