The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are honoring the late Dolly Parton.
The country music icon's death was announced on Tuesday, Aug. 25. She was 80.
On Tuesday, DCC shared a post that commemorated Parton's last appearance with the legendary cheer squad in 2023. About three years ago, during the Thanksgiving Day halftime show, when the Dallas Cowboys played against the Washington Commanders. Parton wore a custom DCC uniform, a bedazzled version of the iconic blue-and-white attire the cheerleading squad is known for. During the halftime show, she performed her hits"Jolene" and "9 to 5" alongside the cheerleading squad.
DCC and the Cowboys made a joint post of snapshots of Parton with the team during her performance, as well as a photo of her sitting beside Cowboys executive Charlotte Jones and a Salvation Army representative.
The Cowboys and DCC captioned the image, "Remembering an icon, Dolly Parton," adding a blue heart emoji.
The country music star's late husband, Carl Dean, who died in 2025, was a fan of the NFL team.
Dolly Parton's nephew announces music icon's death
Parton's nephew, Bryan Seaver, revealed the news of the music icon's passing in an Instagram video the same day.
“My name is Bryan Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next,” Seaver says in the video. “This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”
“It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness," he added. "But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”
Parton's musical accomplishments included 11 Grammy Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards, and a Rock And Hall Hall of Fame induction in 2022, to name a few. She was also largely known for her contributions outside of the studio, like her Imagination Library and her charitable efforts with animals in her Doggy Parton dog toys, which benefit the Willa B. Farms Rescue.
Her legacy spanned seven decades in music, TV, and film, which earned her her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1984, the National Medal of Arts in 2004, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006.
The cause of death of the music icon has not yet been determined.
