Dak Prescott makes cheeky Jalen Carter remark as Cowboys-Eagles set to renew hostilities following Spit-Gate

It’s Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys in Week 12, but one can’t help but be more focused on the accoutrements than the actual meal here.

The game will no doubt be scintillating. But it’s the smaller, one-on-one individual battles in rivalry games like this that really get the juices flowing. And after the antics to start the 2025 NFL season opener a couple of months ago, we’ve got added animosity in a rivalry already overflowing with the stuff.

In that first matchup, Eagles All-Pro DT Jalen Carter was ejected before even playing a down after officials caught him spitting on Cowboys QB Dak Prescott. He was given a one-game suspension, but since he didn’t play a snap in the opener, he was essentially let off with time served.

The plot thickened quickly, however, as video of Prescott seemingly spitting towards Carter just before that showed that the DT did not commit his vile act for nothing. It was retaliation.

For better or worse, both men sent out some projectiles during their exchange. Naturally, that was a topic for discussion between the two players and the media this week. Prescott chose to take the cheeky route when asked about it.

“Depends on what he says first. But probably something friendly. Get on his good side.”

Unsurprisingly, the guy that did not get suspended for spitting was much more jovial when remembering the incident than the guy who did get a suspension. Carter wasn’t even going to dignify the situation with a response.

“We're not worried about that. We're here where we are right now. And at the end of the day, everyone is playing so that's all we're worried about.”

It’s all very cordial and professional right now, but there’s no doubt that many harsh words—but surely no saliva—will be getting thrown around between QB and DT throughout Sunday afternoon’s battle in Big D.

NFL's Spit-Gate 1 was nearly overshadowed by Spit-Gate 2

Just as Spit-Gate 1 was about to be overtaken by a brand new Spit-Gate scandal—let’s call that one “Spitgate 2: Do What Comes Natural”—the Eagles-Cowboys rematch comes around to bring us back to the original.

The Ja’Marr Chase-Jalen Ramsey one was a bit more dramatic because of the fact that it took post-game sideline video to show that Chase had spat on Ramsey (and then lied about it), which resulted in an understandably strong reaction from the Steelers DB that led to his ejection.

Chase got the same punishment as Carter, a one-game suspension, though many believed he had earned himself a second game on the bench after blatantly lying about his disgusting act and having the gall to actually appeal the decision.

Carter, for those wondering, did not appeal his suspension. He has also been very tight-lipped about the whole affair since it happened.

But if Carter does get to lay a hit on Prescott in this game, expect a little extra oomph on the hit and a little extra flare in the sack dance.
