Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a couple of record-breaking bids at the IPL 2026 auction on Tuesday, December 16. They acquired uncapped stars Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma for massive amounts.
The five-time champions broke their bank, roping in both Prashant and Kartik for ₹14.20 crores each. Notably, both players broke the record and are now the joint most expensive uncapped signings in IPL history. The duo broke the record, which was previously held by Avesh Khan, who had been purchased for ₹10 crore in 2022.
With CSK investing heavily in young players at the IPL 2026 auction, after having roped in some quality young talent last year as well, fans believed that they were finally looking to shift from having a majority of older players.

Who are Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma, CSK's record buys at IPL 2026 auction?
20-year-old Prashant Veer is an all-rounder from Uttar Pradesh. He is a left-handed batter and a left-arm spinner. Prashant made a name for himself during the UPT20 League 2025. He smashed 320 runs from 10 matches at a strike rate of 155.34.
In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26, he has scored 112 runs from six innings at a strike rate of 169.69. He has also bagged nine wickets at an average of 18.77 and an economy of 6.76.
On the other hand, Kartik Sharma is a wicketkeeper-batter from Rajasthan. The 19-year-old has impressed in domestic cricket so far. He has 479 runs from eight first-class games at an average of 43.54 with three hundreds. In nine List-A games, he has 445 runs at an average of 55.62 with two hundreds and as many half-centuries. In 12 T20s, he has 334 runs at a strike rate of 162.92.
