ALBANY— Gov. Kathy Hochul was pelted with boos during her State of the State address Tuesday in an odd moment that had nothing to do with politics.
A scripted crack at the end of the 50-minute speech that was meant to sound like a dis of her hometown NFL Buffalo Bills caught the Empire State crowd off guard.
Hochul’s joke fell flat. Angus Mordant for NY Post“We are the patriots,” Hochul said, as a photo of the Bills’ gridiron rivals, the New England Patriots, flashed on the screen behind her and boos rained down from the crowd.
“No, no, no,” she said. “Wrong patriots. Get rid of that. Not those Patriots. Are you guys screwing around? The patriots who formed the new nation.”
The Bills and Patriots are both still alive in the NFL playoffs, and could be on a path to face each other for the American Football Conference title.
Hochul, a devout Bills fan from Buffalo, wrapped up the State of the State with one message as she walked off wearing a baseball cap with the team’s logo.
“Let’s go Bills!”
