Cowboys whiff on trade pursuit of 12-sack difference maker as NFC rivals circle

16 hours ago 3

Less than a year ago, the Dallas Cowboys traded away Micah Parsons.

Believe it or not, they now seem to feel that their pass rush isn't good enough. Trade rumors have circulated that the Cowboys are going after a star to play on the edge.

Earlier in the offseason, many of those reports centered around Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby, who was but then wasn't traded to the Ravens.

Now, Josh Sweat is in the rumors, with the indication being that the Cowboys went after Sweat but didn't offer enough to the Arizona Cardinals:

Ollie Connolly, who was plugged in with Jonathan Greenard trade to Eagles, says Josh Sweat will be traded today.

It will either be to the Packers or Eagles.

Sweat is surely familiar in Dallas, because he spent his first seven NFL seasons with the Eagles. He had 43 sacks in 104 games there.

He then played the 2025 season with the Cardinals and put up a career-high 12 sacks.

The Cardinals seem to be looking for a way to maximize Sweat's value, because a non-contending team like Arizona could benefit from future assets rather than the present value Sweat could provide to a team chasing a playoff spot.

The Cowboys have already upgraded their defense this offseason, but Sweat would've marked another big pickup. Apparently he's not coming to Dallas, but keep an eye out -- it's clear the Cowboys want more pass rush talent on their team.
