Cowboys rumor reveals Dallas' interest in Giants, Packers free-agent defenders

The Dallas Cowboys have a need at linebacker this offseason and are reportedly interested in two free agents at the position.

According to Packer Report's Easton Butler, the Cowboys are interested in Green Bay Packers pending free agent linebacker Quay Walker and recently released former New York Giants linebacker Bobby Okereke.

"The Cowboys are interested in FA LBs Bobby Okereke and Quay Walker, per source," Butler reported.

Dallas' need at linebacker stems from the team releasing Logan Wilson, which was expected. The Cowboys also don't have a sure thing in DeMarvion Overshown, but that's because of his injury history rather than his talent.

Okereke was released by the Giants on Wednesday after two disappointing seasons in a row.

The veteran struggled mightily in run defense last season with a Pro Football Focus grade of 45.5 in that area. However, Okereke has typically played far better than that in the past, with grades north of 71 in that area the three years prior.

Putting his run defense aside for now, Okereke did post a solid showing in the pass-rush and in coverage, notching grades that ranked 38th and 24th among players at his position, respectively. He would also add some much-needed speed to Dallas' defense, also.

Walker posted the best year of his career in 2025 and appears to finally be coming on after what were some up-and-down years to start his NFL stint.

Walker isn't elite by any stretch, but he's a good leader, has sideline-to-sideline speed, and is an effective blitzer, as evidenced by his 62.0 pass-rush grade.

The problem with Walker is he's a liability in coverage (44.9 grade) and is OK but not great at stopping the run.

Even still, Walker is expected to do very well in free agency given the state of the linebackers group. Meanwhile, Okereke should come cheaper off a down year.

With the Cowboys looking to maximize their cap space, of which there may not be a lot, Okereke would be the more sound signing for Dallas.
