With the preseason concluding last Saturday and the Dallas Cowboys making the necessary roster cuts to meet the 53-man requirement, it’s safe to say the five-time Super Bowl champions are set for the start of the 2026-27 regular season.
Overall, Dallas’ offseason was moderately successful, as it bolstered their linebacking depth by trading for Dee Winters, improved their pass rush by acquiring Rashan Gary and signing Von Miller, and drafted a future star in the secondary in Caleb Downs, to name a few marquee moves.
However, fans shouldn’t rule out an in-season move to help address a specific need, as Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has a hunch that a defensive-minded trade could be in the cards for the Cowboys.
Specifically, Knox believes that Dallas could land two-time All-Pro edge rusher Maxx Crosby by sending Gary, a 2024 Pro Bowler, to the Las Vegas Raiders before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.
“The Dallas Cowboys have taken an aggressive approach to rebuilding their defense this offseason, and franchise owner Jerry Jones has stated (in July) that he may not be finished making moves,” Knox wrote last Friday.
“While the Cowboys have since added Von Miller to their pass-rushing rotation, it wouldn't be a shock to see them make another run at Crosby closer to the trade deadline,” Knox wrote last Friday.
“If Dallas looks like a formidable playoff contender by November, trading valuable draft capital (two future first round picks)—along with a proven player like Rashan Gary, who was acquired via trade early in the offseason—to get Crosby could be the sort of all-in move that Jones believes will get him to the Super Bowl.”
There's no question that Crosby’s failed deal with the Baltimore Ravens in early March opened the door for a potential blockbuster trade to the Cowboys. After all, Dallas desperately needed a game-changing quarterback hunter capable of winning one-on-one battles, working through double teams, and maintaining a high motor throughout games.
As Knox noted, the Cowboys’ pass-rushing attack is a much better spot than it was a few months ago. Still, Crosby could be the midseason addition that helps the NFC East franchise cement itself as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
The 29-year-old finished the 2026-27 campaign with 73 tackles, 10 sacks, and one interception in 15 games with the struggling Raiders. If Las Vegas wants to start fresh following a potential slow start to the new season, Dallas shouldn’t hesitate to inquire about Crosby’s availability in trade talks.
