Cowboys predicted to hire arch-rival's offensive coordinator as new head coach

The Dallas Cowboys have a bitter rivalry with every other team in their division, but for the last decade, the feud with the Philadelphia Eagles has taken center stage.

Of the last 12 NFC East division titles, the Cowboys and Eagles have each won five. There have been some titanic clashes late in seasons to decide the division, yet while Philadelphia has enjoyed accompanying playoff success, the title game drought continues in Dallas.

Now, the Cowboys need a new head coach, and they may have the chance to kill two birds with one stone. What if they poach the Eagles' offensive play-caller to run the ship in Dallas?

If so, they'll also be bringing a familiar face back into the fold.

Recently, USA Today's Jacob Camenker predicted that the Cowboys would hire Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who held the same position in Dallas from 2019-2022, as their next head coach.

"Moore helped guide the Cowboys to the league's No. 1 offense in points and yards per game in 2021, so he could quickly rekindle that magic with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb," wrote.

"Moore enjoyed a quality first season in Philadelphia, leading the Eagles to the sixth-best offensive EPA per play (0.1) and the league's fourth-best rushing EPA per play (0.09). As such, the soon-to-be 36-year-old seems ready to make the leap and become Dallas' youngest head coach since Tom Landry."

Plenty has changed in Dallas since that fateful 2021 season, when the Cowboys lost a tight playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers on a late-game clock management error. But the explosiveness of their offense is something worth returning to at the earliest opportunity.

One never knows how a first-time head coach will react to CEO duties, but Moore can seemingly at least be counted on to help shape up the limp Dallas offense. The rest, hopefully, will fall into place if he's hired.
