Cowboys' Micah Parsons drops shocking update on contract extension

5 hours ago 1

The Dallas Cowboys are still trying to work out an extension for Micah Parsons. The superstar took to social media to deny a recent report on the state of negotiations.

According to a recent report from The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins, Parsons is looking for a $200 million deal. Watkins recently reported that a "hand shake deal is already done" between the Cowboys and their superstar pass rusher. Parsons set the record straight on X by noting that the report is "cap," or, in other words, a lie.

Parsons is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro. A $200 million deal would give him the biggest contract ever for a defensive player. Actually, it would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history. The current highest-paid non-quarterback in history is Ja'Marr Chase, who signed a $161 million extension this offseason.

The longer the Cowboys wait, the more Parsons could demand. He is under contract for this season, but that does not mean he will not hold out to get his money.

In all likelihood, the Cowboys will find a way to pay Parsons, even if there is a holdout. They recently did deals with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Although those same deals could be making it tougher to pay Parsons. Both sides seem to see Parsons as a Cowboy for the future, but as of right now, there is no long-term deal in place.

If Parsons does want a $200 million deal, the Cowboys are going to take their time in working out the details. It is no small task to work out an extension of that caliber, but the Cowboys should find a way to get it done before the season starts.
