Former Pittsburgh Steelers and current Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens has shared his reaction to the trade with the Miami Dolphins involving safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick was shipped off to the Dolphins on Monday morning in a deal that sent cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh. The Steelers parting with Fitzpatrick was unexpected.
In the wake of the trade, Pickens posted about it on his Instagram story and threw some shade at the Steelers.
“Super happy for you broski!!!!!" Pickens wrote. "Back to beautiful places in life lol.”
Of course, the shade comes from Pickens clearly not considering Pittsburgh a "beautiful" place. Pickens getting in a shot on his former team isn't surprising.
We can't say for sure why the Steelers decided to part with Fitzpatrick, but Steelers insider and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Ray Fittipaldo told 93.7 The Fan that Fitzpatrick had a role in communication and chemistry issues on defense that helped lead to a decline in the unit's performance late in 2024.
"[Ray Fittipaldo] says on [93.7 The Fan] that the Steelers communication issues and chemistry issues on defense were due in large part to Minkah Fitzpatrick," radio host Andrew Filliponi said on X.
"A lot of that was Minkah," Fittipaldo said.
We also know that Fitzpatrick hadn't played up to snuff the past two seasons, so that could have also played a part.
Nevertheless, Fitzpatrick now returns to the place he started his career.
The Dolphins drafted him with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft before trading him to the Steelers the following season.
