Cowboys' Dak Prescott details 'huge' benefit of stellar run game

The Dallas Cowboys' offense this season has been rolling and while many fixate on the passing attack with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, the run game with Javonte Williams has been a big surprise.

In six of their seven games, the Cowboys have rushed for over 100 yards, with Williams already posting 592 yards and six touchdowns as all of the critics of his move in the offseason are now quiet.

Having a run game that at least keeps the defense honest has allowed the passing game to heat up and with Dak in MVP form, his receivers are feasting, and don't think Prescott know how crucial Williams' success on the ground is to the offense's success.

“It's huge,” Prescott said. “I've talked about it going back to the spring how important a run game is and it helps with the box count, they've got to load the box and then you can take advantage outside with the one-on-ones. Tay's a very smart runner, but physical, patient, and just does a hell of a job.

"Starts with the offensive line, them creating holes and he knows where he needs to go and how he needs to set it up and that's only going to make us just continue to get better the more success we have on the ground.”

Cowboys offense flying after seven weeks

Both the run and pass game have been big hits for Brian Schottenheimer, and each have played their role of opening up things for the other.

If Williams gets rolling, defenses have to put more defenders in the box, which leaves Lamb and Pickens in good situations, and if the receivers are getting hot, more defenders drop into coverage, and give lighter boxes for Williams to expolit.

It is the classic "pick your poison" in how you stop Schottenheimer's offense and through seven weeks, they are averaging a cool 31.7 points per game, and you can make the case that Prescott is at the very top of the MVP conversation.

But he might not be there without Williams and the run game playing as well as they are.
