The Cowboys are making a list and checking it twice.
No, it's not Christmas and Jerry Jones isn't Santa Claus but the Dallas front office is handing out well-deserved gifts to free agents. Next up? One of the best kickers in football, Brandon Aubrey.
After the Cowboys signed running back Javonte Williams to a 3-year, $24 million contract, a new report says the team's next priority is signing Brandon Aubrey.
Brandon Aubrey next priority for Cowboys front office
Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones spoke with the The Dallas Morning News on Sunday about Aubrey's new contract.
“We’ve been working on a long-term deal for some time,” Jones said. “We’ve exchanged offers and the goal is to get him signed."
Amidst talks of franchise tagging George Pickens, the Cowboys' front office would love to lock down its kicker.
But Jones made sure to emphasize that if push comes to shove, Dallas will play hardball.
"We’ll tender him before the deadline if that’s what we have to decide," he added.
Aubrey, a restricted free agent, is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history. He has an 88.2% rate on field goals (112/127) and 96.2% on extra points (126/130).

His longest made field goal is 65 yards and he has the most 60+ yard field goals in NFL history.
It's safe to say he'd be worth a contract around $7 million annually, which would make the All-Pro the highest paid kicker in the league.
It sounds like Dallas and Aubrey are nearing a deal and he'll get a chance to cash in on his performance as a Cowboy.
