WNBA superstar Paige Bueckers had a Taser pointed in her face during her Dallas Wings teammate’s wild arrest earlier this year, new police video obtained by the California Post shows.
The chaotic incident occurred at around 4:20 a.m. on March 5, just outside of the popular Miami nightclub E11EVEN.
Bueckers, her Wings teammate Arike Ogunbowale and a host of other WNBA players had been inside the establishment celebrating Ogunbowale’s championship victory in the Unrivaled women’s basketball league when they were all abruptly escorted out of the building.
A police incident report states that following some kind of altercation inside the venue, Ogunbowale and her friends were being ushered to the back exit when Ogunbowale suddenly punched one of the nightclub’s security staffers “in the face with a closed fist.”
After the alleged victim told cops Ogunbowale was the assailant, one officer went to detain her just after she got out of the club.
But bodycamera footage shows as the policeman went to grab her wrists, Bueckers and several others tried to plead with the cop to let her go.
The crowd around Ogunbowale — which included Unrivaled host Maria Clifton, Aces guard Jackie Young and Sky forward DiJonai Carrington, among others — grew so large, the cop pulled out his Taser and demanded everyone back up.
Bueckers, though, put her arm around Ogunbowale and told the cop repeatedly, “We got her.”
The officer then aimed the Taser at Bueckers and ordered her to let Ogunbowale go.
After several tense moments, the video shows Ogunbowale’s group ultimately let the cop detain her, though Clifton was heard shouting, “Stop it. Do not put handcuffs on her. Are you f—king kidding me? She’s a champion.”
Ogunbowale was placed into the back of a police squad car, and during an ensuing investigation, authorities wrote in the incident report that officers observed CCTV footage from the nightclub that was was consistent with the alleged victim’s allegations against Ogunbowale.
Ogunbowale was eventually taken to nearby jail and booked on one misdemeanor count of battery.
Court records, however, show the charge was dropped in May.
“We are pleased that the State Attorney’s Office has exercised its discretion and elected not to move forward with this matter,” Ogunbowale’s attorney, Mitch Schuster, said in a statement to ESPN at the time of the case’s disposition.
“Ms. Ogunbowale is a person of outstanding character, and we are excited that these charges have been dismissed so she can resume her focus on her professional career.”
Ogunbowale joined the Wings in 2019 after being selected in the first round. She and Bueckers have been teammates in Dallas since the franchise took the former UConn guard with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft.
