Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel are just beginning their NBA journeys, but the two rookies have already shared a moment that has fans buzzing, and one that touched Flagg’s family.

Former Duke teammates reconnect during summer league clash

During a recent NBA Summer League game, the former Duke standouts greeted each other courtside before tipoff, sharing a quick handshake and smile. The wholesome exchange didn’t go unnoticed, especially by Flagg’s mom, Kelly, who responded to the clip on social media with a heartfelt message: “Brothers forever.”

It was the first time the pair had crossed paths since NBA Draft night nearly three weeks ago, when Flagg was selected first overall by the Dallas Mavericks and Knueppel went fourth to the Charlotte Hornets. While Flagg did not play in the game and could only watch from the sidelines, Knueppel made his presence felt on the court.

The Hornets' rookie recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, helping Charlotte blow out Dallas in an 87-69 win.

Though the Mavericks and Hornets will only play each other twice during the regular season, this could be the start of a long-running battle between two young stars who know each other well. Their shared Duke history and similar timelines in the league may fuel a friendly rivalry that fans will enjoy for years.

Both Flagg and Knueppel made major impacts as freshmen in college, helping Duke to the NCAA Tournament Final Four.
