Congressman pushes amendment to allow Trump a 3rd term — but not Obama, Clinton or Bush

A congressman is pushing for a law change that would allow President Trump to run for a third term — but would prevent other living presidents, including Democrats Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, from returning to the White House.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) proposed an amendment Thursday that would allow presidents three terms in office — as long as they did not serve two consecutive four-year stints.

That would allow a third term for Trump — whose two were interrupted by Joe Biden — but not for Obama, Clinton, or George Bush, whose two terms were consecutive.

“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times, nor be elected to any additional term after being elected to two consecutive terms, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” the amendment would say.

The 22nd Amendment — passed by Congress in 1947 after Franklin Delano Roosevelt won four terms in office — currently bars President Trump and all two-term holders from running for a third term.

However, the Tennessee lawmaker’s proposal would grant Trump the chance to run again since he lost in 2020.

Biden is already able to seek another term, although he was already humiliated by having to exit from the 2024 race over concerns about his mental acuity.

Ogles said he wants Trump to serve a third term to continue “restoring America to greatness.”

“President Trump’s decisive leadership stands in stark contrast to the chaos, suffering, and economic decline Americans have endured over the past four years,” Ogles wrote.

“He has proven himself to be the only figure in modern history capable of reversing our nation’s decay and restoring America to greatness, and he must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal,” he said.

“This amendment would allow President Trump to serve three terms, ensuring that we can sustain the bold leadership our nation so desperately needs.”
