England suffered another embarrassing Ashes series defeat in Australia, losing by 82 runs in the third Test in Adelaide. Despite coming into Aussie shores with high expectations, Ben Stokes' side went down 0-3 with a third consecutive comprehensive defeat to the hosts.

Like the opening two Tests, England failed to capitalize on several key moments in the contest. It was their 16th Test loss in their last 18 matches down under, with the other two being draws.

England have not won a Test match in Australia since the historic 2010/11 Ashes series victory. Furthermore, the visitors have also not held the Ashes urn since their 3-2 home series win in 2015.

Fans on X trolled England for their series defeat in only 11 days of action with the following reactions:

England can atleast take solace in the fact that they fought in the third test. This is a good moral victory. The ashes is still alive by their standards 😬😬😬

@cricketcomau England spent three Tests chasing a ghost, only to find it was a mirage all along. #Ashes

If England is not putting an end to this Bazball formula, the legacy of Ashes is as dead as India- Pakistan. No rivalry can ever exist if it’s one sided. #Ashes2025

I would like to congratulate England once again on retaining the moral Ashes! #AUSvsENG

As I predicted earlier, England is not touching the Ashes Urn anytime soon in the future. If they wanna have a chance, they should pack up and send Bazz back to NZ.

• “the worst Australian Team in 15 years” • “too old” • “the best English Team in 10 years” #Ashes The pre tour dialogue from England is burning in their ears.

"Everyone is hurting and quite emotional" - Ben Stokes

England captain Ben Stokes was despondent post-match after his side blew a third consecutive game in the Ashes 2025-26, thereby relinquishing the urn to Australia. After dominating the opening day of the series opener in Perth, things have gone downhill rapidly for the visitors.

England lost the contest and the subsequent second Test by eight wickets, falling 0-2 down in the best-of-five series. They displayed more fight in the third Test, scoring 352 in their final-innings run chase of 435.

Yet another considerable first innings deficit doomed any hopes of a comeback in the series.

Addressing his side's dismal Australian tour thus far, Stokes said at the presentation (via ESPN Cricinfo):

"That dream is now over, which is incredibly disappointing. Everyone is hurting and quite emotional about it. It hurts, it sucks, but we aren't going to stop. Australia have just been able to execute things more consistently than us...we've shown it in passages. That stuff I wanted to see, I've seen that this week. Think we can take a lot from this game. We've got so much more to play for.

England will now play for pride and look to avoid another embarrassing 0-5 whitewash in the final two Tests. The fourth Test will be played in Melbourne, starting December 26.
