The Washington Commanders are in last place in the NFC East, but they have a real chance of winning the division with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles all a mess right now.
However, things just got significantly more challenging for the Commanders after Week 6, and it has little to do with the loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Unfortunately, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is reporting that wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who was carted off with what appeared to be a serious injury, has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn patellar tendon.
Commanders get awful news as Terry McLaurin's season is over
"Commanders WR Terry McLaurin has suffered a torn patellar tendon and is done for the season, the MRI revealed," Rapoport reported Tuesday afternoon.
This is a brutal injury for the Commanders' WR, as McLaurin now faces a lengthy road to recovery. At 31 years old, McLaurin now heads for rehab to return in 2027 for the Commanders.
Through the first six games of the 2026 season with the Commanders, dealing with a shuffle at the quarterback position, McLaurin caught 15 of his 27 targets for 230 yards and one touchdown.

Before the injury in Week 6 on Monday Night Football, which led to him being carted off the field, McLaurin had one catch for 27 yards.
Washington is now going to be without their top wide receiver for the remainder of the 2026 NFL season. Stefon Diggs takes over as the top WR, with Antonio Williams, Treylon Burks, Dyami Brown, and Luke McCaffrey making up the depth chart.
Chigozeim Okonkwo will likely see a lot of work going forward, as the Commanders and Jayden Daniels will need to figure out how best to move forward this season without their best playmaker.
It's a brutal injury update for McLaurin and the Commanders, as what was supposed to be a promising season was cut short due to a season-ending torn patellar tendon.
