Commanders' free agency shift key to 2026 bounce back

The Washington Commanders, it appears, have learnt their lesson about going after veterans and parting ways with draft picks after last year's failure.

This year, general manager Adam Peters went after key free agents, and ones who are slated to slot into starting roles and help propel Dan Quinn's team forward.

After last year's horror show, which was mainly due to injuries, the Commanders are hoping for better fortune.

And for Sports Illustrated's Gilberto Manzano, he's named the Commanders as one of the most improved teams in football after free agency.

"GM Adam Peters moved away from trading for veteran players and returned to betting on underrated players, which he did in his first season in Washington before the team made a surprise run to the NFC title game," Manzano wrote.

"This could be a vastly improved defense with new playmakers in all three phases."

Commanders' hopes still rest on Daniels

As we saw last season, once Daniels was out of the team, Washington struggled. So, despite the free agency signings, it will all come down to Jayden's health.

Of course, this can be said for all 31 other teams and their starting quarterback, too.

But the Commanders need Jayden to stay healthy, and if he does, then this team takes on a vastly different look.

A beefed-up defense and an offense that needs another weapon or two for Daniels, Washington is in a good spot.

But Daniels holds the key to Washington's success.
