Indianapolis Colts tight end Tyler Warren will begin his NFL career wearing the No. 84 on his jersey.
Though the first-round pick wore No. 44 throughout his collegiate career at Penn State, that won't be the case when he begins his journey in the NFL.
That number currently belongs to Colts star linebacker Zaire Franklin.
When asked whether Warren requested the jersey number from Franklin, the rookie had the perfect response.
"He’s a captain,” Warren said via The Athletic's James Boyd. “I don’t really have a spot to try and ask for his number.”
That kind of humble response doesn't come around too often, especially from first-round picks in today's game. But it does show what kind of character Warren brings to the Colts.
Using the No. 14 overall pick to bring Warren onto the roster, the Colts addressed a major need while getting sufficient value. Though the tight end position may not hold the same value as an edge rusher or a cornerback, Warren should elevate the room immediately.
Whether Warren will get the chance to wear No. 44 later on in his career remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he wound up with the big "C" on his chest before long.
