The Baltimore Ravens have had quite the last 24 hours. It all began when the Ravens rescinded their trade for Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
“One of the NFL's biggest blockbuster trades of the 2026 offseason has suddenly turned into one of the league's biggest debacles. The Las Vegas Raiders announced Tuesday night that the Baltimore Ravens backed out of a trade that would have sent five-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Maxx Crosby to Baltimore in exchange for two first-round picks. League sources told ESPN that the Ravens rescinded the deal because of medical concerns that arose during a physical (trades are contingent on players passing physicals). The specifics of the concerns are unknown,” ESPN’s staff wrote.
Less than 24 hours after the trade was rescinded, Baltimore pivoted quickly by signing Trey Hendrickson as Crosby’s replacement.
“The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to sign free agent defensive end Trey Hendrickson, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter, in a high-priced pivot after their canceled blockbuster trade for Maxx Crosby,” ESPN reported. “The sides agreed to a four-year, $112 million deal that can be worth up to $120 million with incentives, according to Schefter. The deal includes $60 million fully guaranteed and a $20 million signing bonus, sources told Schefter.”
The biggest loser in this situation may not be the Raiders—it could actually be the Indianapolis Colts, who were reportedly close to signing Hendrickson.
“Trey Hendrickson was going to sign with the Colts before the Ravens failed Maxx Crosby’s physical and pivoted to him, per RapSheet. Now, Indianapolis must pivot themselves after being all-in on Hendrickson and missing out on the other top pass rushers in the process,” NFL reporter Evan Sidery wrote.
The Colts were essentially outbid by the Ravens at the last moment, and Baltimore likely presented a more appealing destination. This development is a tough blow for Indianapolis, as the business side of the NFL showed up in full force.
Hendrickson is expected to be a quarterback hunter for the Ravens, while the Colts must now start over in their search for a premier pass rusher. This is just one of the many ripple effects of the Crosby trade falling apart.
