The Indianapolis Colts just lost to the Tennessee Titans in Week 6 of the 2026 NFL season. The 2-3 Colts drop to 2-4, and the 0-5 Titans improve to 1-5.
Following such a brutal loss for the Colts, they made a big change, firing general manager Chris Ballard. The 10th year GM was fired, and now the Colts are looking for a new leader of this franchise.
According to Dan Patrick on The Dan Patrick Show, the Colts have reportedly made quite an interesting call already. One source told Patrick that Peyton Manning is a name to watch, as he's already been called about the GM opening.
Colts call Peyton Manning about GM opening after Chris Ballard's firing
"The Colts' first call will be/has been to Peyton Manning. The call will not only get names and suggestions, but the call will explore whether or not Peyton would be interested in a general manager for the Colts as the entry point that would include ownership interest in the Colts," Patrick shared.

— Dan Patrick Show (@dpshow) October 19, 2026This report from Patrick is a very interesting one, and it's a whole lot more fascinating than simply hearing that the Colts will be calling Manning about the opening.
While there seems to be interest from the Colts in bringing Manning in as the team's general manager, they're also looking to get advice from the Hall of Famer on the GM opening.

But in their pitch to hire Manning, they're rumored to be offering Manning a partial ownership stake in the Colts, which would be quite an interesting situation for the former Colts QB.
Manning is still very much involved in the NFL world and could play a similar role to what Tom Brady is doing right now with the Las Vegas Raiders, acting as a key figure in the front office while also working for FOX on an NFL broadcast.
Taking over GM duties would likely take Manning away from his ESPN work, as he'd need to focus on helping the team out, similar to what Matt Ryan is doing with the Atlanta Falcons.
Either way, regardless of what Manning decides to do, this report from Patrick indicates the Colts still very much place a lot of value on Manning's thoughts, enough to potentially hire him as their new GM after nearly a decade with Ballard in control.
