The Indianapolis Colts are currently 2-4 this year, following a loss to the Tennessee Titans. After such a brutal loss, the Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard.
There are plenty of things he's done wrong over the years, but recently Ballard's moves have not gone well at all. The Sauce Gardner trade was a huge mistake, and the Alec Pierce extension hasn't gone well. But the worst might be the Daniel Jones deal.
ESPN's Dan Graziano blasted the Colts over the Jones contract extension, as he believes that the notion that Jones' extension was the "biggest mistake" made by any team this offseason is not an overreaction.
Daniel Jones extension called 'biggest mistake' of offseason
"The Daniel Jones extension was the biggest mistake any team made this offseason," Graziano writes. "Verdict: Not an overreaction."
Graziano didn't stop there; he also asked a brutal question that the Colts have to come to terms with: "Could it get better? Sure. Lots of things can happen. But how much better can we really expect things to get in Indy?"
This is a brutal reality check of the Jones contract for the Colts. While there might be hope that he can somewhat turn things around, even if he does, it most likely won't result in a deep playoff run.
There are plenty of other issues on this roster, and even if Jones does turn into the quarterback he showed he could be in the first half of 2025, this season might already be over for the Colts.

Ballard has been fired, the Colts don't have their 2027 first-round pick, the team is 2-4, and they just lost to the Titans. Jones is making close to $50 million guaranteed on a two-year, $88 million deal.
This contract for Jones hasn't worked out as the Colts had hoped, and Graziano is calling it the biggest mistake made by any team this offseason.
While some other moves are looking like blunders in retrospect around the league, this contract from the Colts for Jones is one of the worst.
There's just not enough upside with Jones, and it seems more likely than not that Graziano is right in his brutal assessment of the Colts and their extension with Jones this past offseason.
