Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders set to see less Browns QB competition when either Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett gets cut or traded

Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders is no longer being rumored to be traded or cut by the Cleveland Browns ahead of the 2025 season. Deion Sanders’ youngest son and fellow 2025 draftee Dillon Gabriel will remain in the Browns’ quarterback room, but whoever loses the veteran battle between Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett will be in danger of such a fate.

“The four healthy quarterbacks will jostle for roster positions. Given the two draft picks, it's likely that whichever veteran -- Flacco or Pickett -- doesn't win the starting gig could be released or traded. It's about as interesting a concoction as you can find, with no clear-cut answer as to how things will play,” NFL.com’s Kevin Patra wrote.

“Pickett is expected to enter offseason workouts at the front of the line, but the 40-year-old Flacco brings experience in Kevin Stefanski's system.”

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kat Cabot reported last week that the Browns had no plan to trade any of their QBs.

“The Browns have no plans to trade any of their quarterbacks at this point, even though teams such as the Saints can use a veteran with Derek Carr retiring,” Cabot wrote.

“The Browns will conduct concurrent offensive drills in OTAs to maximize the reps for all four quarterback, and give them as level a playing field as possible. All four will have to have a chance to throw to Jerry Jeudy, David Njoku and Cedric Tillman to make the competition fair. By the same token, the Browns will need to decide on their starter as soon as possible to get him ready for a difficult start to the season, with two AFC North games in the first two weeks, and then a stretch of four out of five on the road — including the London game vs. the Vikings on Oct. 5 — in the first five weeks.”

Things have clearly changed. It’s good news for Sanders, but bad news for any Cleveland fan hoping the team would have veterans at the top two spots on the Browns’ QB depth chart.
