Former Cincinnati Bengals receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh heard from a source in Berea that Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders and Joe Flacco are out of the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback competition.
Houshmandzadeh claimed the QB1 role was down to either former first-round pick Kenny Pickett or Cleveland’s 2025 third-round pick, Dillon Gabriel.
“I was told by somebody that's in the building, that ain't a player, it's really coming down to Kenny Pickett or Dillon Gabriel,” Houshmandzadeh said on ESPN Cleveland.
The narrative is all over the place regarding Kevin Stefanski’s plans under center.
Browns receiver Diontae Johnson claimed Pickett and Flacco are the likeliest starters, with the caveat that the latter could be replacing the former if there were any issues with the former Pitt Panthers star.
“I think I'm going to roll with Kenny for right now. I'm really seeing Kenny going on like right now with the ones, but then Joe will come in. I think they're probably going to roll with him. Just like to see, like just coming off the season, he was with Philly and having a Super Bowl,” Johnson said during a mid-June episode of “The Comeback.”
“So I'd rather see, I think they're going to stick with him through preseason and then, you know, they can live with what Joe comes and brings to the table.”
Meanwhile, Sanders was being pushed as Cleveland’s potential QB1 until his recent speeding incidents.
Whether Gabriel is making much headway is unclear. But Pickett has clearly been making upward moves in the room, while Flacco is being seen as a backup, and Sanders is officially the afterthought.
