Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders has ready-made job with Coach Prime in Boulder if NFL doesn’t work out

If Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders doesn’t overcome the three quarterbacks in front of him on the Cleveland Browns’ depth chart and win the starting signal-caller job, or doesn't find his footing in the league after that, he may have a ready-made job with his father, Coach Prime, in Boulder down the line.

As On SI’s Angele Miele notes, Shedeur was working over the weekend to help bring on two Class of 2026 four-star receiving recruits: Benjamin Russell’s (AL) Cederian Morgan and Madison’s (TX) Jordan Clay. Shedeur has previously helped bring Julian Lewis on board to become his successor, as Miele relayed.

Miele sounded confident the “Grown QB” could even help seal the deal with one or both of them.

“Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is in the NFL now, but he is still helping out the Colorado Buffaloes in a crucial way. Sanders made an appearance at the Overtime OT7 Finals, where a couple of Colorado's top recruiting targets were participating,” Miele wrote.

“Two of Colorado’s top targets were participating over the weekend including five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan and four-star wide receiver Jordan Clay. Morgan and Clay are two recruits the Buffaloes are in the running for and would greatly boost the program's recruiting rankings.

“As "Coach Prime" recovers from an unspecified health issue in Texas, unable to welcome recruits visiting Colorado, his son making an appearance could end up going a long way for not just Morgan and Clay, but other undecided recruits. Of the four recruits from the class of 2026, the team received a commitment from just one four-star player, safety Preston Ashley. With Sanders’ help, the Buffaloes could be receiving two big-time commitments in the coming days.”

Morgan is currently crystal-balled to Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Crimson Tide, while Clay’s recruitment has no consensus landing spot right now.

Future University of Colorado Boulder Buffaloes Football GM Shedeur Sanders?

Sanders has had a rough go in the NFL. That’s a fair statement to most objective observers.

Between sliding in the draft to the fifth round of the 2025 draft and his multiple speeding tickets, Shedeur is finding that the grass is not greener than when he was playing for his papa at Jackson State or CU.

If things continue to go so poorly in Berea, perhaps Shedeur could consider working for his dad, serving as the GM of the Colorado Buffaloes football program. He’d be joining his half-brother, Deion Jr., aka “Bucky,” who serves as the mind behind Well Off Media, in Boulder.

Who could sell what CU and “Prime Time” could do for you better than the man who took over the NFL’s newscycle as a fifth-round pick and helped Travis Hunter win the Heisman?
