Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders’ chances of starting Week 1 revealed before rookie minicamp with Dillon Gabriel

Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders and Cleveland’s third-round draft pick, Dillon Gabriel, both have a chance at starting for the Browns at some point during the 2025 NFL season.

If neither is cut from the roster first, that is.

But Deion Sanders’ youngest son and Oregon’s 2024 Heisman finalist don’t have a chance at starting during Week 1. The “Orange and Brown Talk Podcast” staff poured water on that possibility.

“The stakes are particularly high given the Browns’ recent quarterback instability. The team desperately needs stability at the position, making every practice rep more significant. While neither rookie may start Week 1, strong performances now could accelerate their timeline to seeing the field,” they wrote.

Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot revealed on the podcast that Sanders and Gabriel’s leadership will be under the microscope during rookie camp.

“Every single thing that they do is going to be factored into this quarterback position because the quarterback is not only a leader on the football field, but he is the leader of your football team,” Cabot said.

Given how Sanders’ pre-draft meetings went – one with Giants head coach Brian Daboll was reportedly disastrous – this rookie mini-camp is the first chance to understand whether he’ll be cut, traded, or stick with the Browns by Week 1.

Just whatever happens, he won’t be starting. And neither will Gabriel.
